GDPR Compliance for Landing Page Cat

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is an important piece of legislation that is designed to strengthen and unify data protection laws for all individuals within the European Union. The regulation will become effective and enforceable on the 25th of May 2018.

You can read an overview and our general approach to GDPR here.

We’ve added a number of features to Landing Page Cat that will help you be GDPR compliant. Here’s an overview.

Note: None of this is legal advice, so please consult with an attorney in order to achieve GDPR compliance.

Consent Checkbox

Under GDPR, you have to ask for consent, if you use your subscriber’s data for marketing purposes. In practice, this means adding a checkbox to your optin form (alternatively, using double optin in itself may be enough – please consult with an attorney).

UsingLanding Page Cat, you can enable site-wide consent checkboxes for all of your forms. Simply navigate to Settings. Here’s the interface:

Once you’ve turned on the checkbox, your forms will still look exactly like they did before:

Once this form is submitted, your user will see this:

We’ve built this “2-step consent process” because it doesn’t clutter up your forms, and will get you a higher conversion rate.

Here’s how it works. Depending on if your user checks this checkbox, the following will happen.

User doesn’t check box, abandons the form:

Nothing.

User doesn’t check box, and hits the call-to-action button again:

Consent will be logged as false (see “Consent Tracking” below).
Email address will not be sent onward to your email provider.

If the user checks the box and hits the “subscribe button” again:

Consent will be logged as true (see “Consent Tracking” below).
Email address will be sent onward to your email provider.

Consent Tracking

As of Landing Page Cat 1.5, we now store a list of all your subscribers that opt-in using Optin Cat, and their consent status. We also store a copy of your consent checkbox’ text at the time of opting in.

To view this table, navigate to Landing Page Cat -> Subscribers

There are 3 kinds of consent status:

true (consent given)
false (consent not given)
unknown (no consent checkbox was displayed)

Double Optin

Double optin is one way to prove consent. All our email provider integrations support double optin. While double optin may not be required for GDPR compliance (especially if you use a consent checkbox), we’d recommend turning it on.

Data Export & Data Erasure

Under GDPR, you have to erase all user data if requested, and you have to provide all data you have on a user if requested.

Landing Page Cat integrates with the following WordPress 4.9.6 GDPR features:

Data export
Data erasure

This means that if you receive a data erasure or deletion request, you can use WordPress’s default tools. You can learn more here.

How To Use Particle Effect for Landing Page Cat

Landing Page Cat premium now offers Particle Effects that you can easily add to your landing pages.

Particle effects are cool dynamic animations, that are fully interactable. Since they are created mathematically, they will have small file sizes, and not won’t slow your landing pages down.

We’ve made it super easy to add a variety of particle effects to your landing pages.

Turn on particle effects
Choose an effect you like (view our demo for examples).
Customize the color of your particles.
Enable or disable “Mouse Interactivity”. (Decide whether or not you want your particles to react to the viewer’s mouse location, and clicks.)

That’s all there is to adding great looking particle effects to your landing pages.

How To Integrate ‘Landing Page Cat’ with my Email Marketing Provider

If using the ‘Email Optin‘ feature of google analytics you’ll need to integrate it with your provider. If you don’t have an email marketing provider yet, you can store your optins locally instead.

Before you begin:
This article is useful for free and premium customers. If you are interested in purchasing head Here.

1. Make sure you have the ‘Email Optin‘ CTA selected under the ‘Setup‘ tab.

2. Go to the Configuration Tab

3. Select your provider. Then you’ll need to provide your account credentials.

Select the tab for your provider for detailed instructions. (If your provider is not listed, see if they are supported by Zapier).

Active Campaign

4. Click the link to “Log Into Active Campaign“.

5. Sign in to your account.

6. Click your username in the top right, and select ‘My Account‘.

7. Click the ‘Developer’ tab on the right

8. Copy and paste the ‘URL‘ and ‘Key‘ into Landing Page Cat. Be sure to ‘Paste as plain text‘.

9. Wait for your credentials to be accepted, and select a list.

Aweber

AWeber

4. Click the link to “Get my AWeber Auth Code“.

5. You’ll be asked to sign in, to confirm you want ‘Landing Page Cat‘ to have access to your AWeber account.

6. Copy and paste the provided Auth Code into Landing Page Cat. Be sure to ‘Paste as plain text‘.

7. Wait for your credentials to be accepted, and select a list.

Drip

4. Click the link to “Log in to Drip”

5. Sign in to your account.

6. Copy the number in the URL here, and paste that into the ‘Account ID‘ field in ‘Landing Page Cat‘.

7. Click the gear icon in the top right, and select ‘User Settings‘, and copy and paste the ‘API Token’ here into ‘Landing Page Cat‘.

Be sure to ‘Paste as plain text‘.

8. Wait for your credentials to be accepted, and select a list.

GetResponse

4. Click the link to “Get my GetRespone API key“.

5. Sign in to your account.

6. Copy and paste the provided ‘API Key‘ into Landing Page Cat. Be sure to ‘Paste as plain text‘.

7. Wait for your credentials to be accepted, and select a list.

MailChimp

4. Click the link to “Get my MailChimp API key“.

5. Sign in to your account.

6. Copy and paste the provided ‘API Key‘ into Landing Page Cat. Be sure to ‘Paste as plain text‘.

7. Wait for your credentials to be accepted, and select a list.

Zapier

4. First, click here to get access to the Quiz Cat app in Zapier. Now you need to begin creating a Zap!

A Zap is a Zapier function to send and receive data from one place to another. For our purposes, your zap will be using the sister plugin “Quiz Cat” trigger in Zapier, and end with where you want this data sent and compiled. The possibilities are endless.

5. Click to “Create Zap” or “Make a Zap”. Under “Choose App & Event“, choose “Quiz Cat” and it should autoload “Choose Trigger Event” to be “New Quiz Submission”. Now click “Continue”.

As you select your trigger (Quiz Cat), you will need to test it before continuing to selecting your Action. When prompted to do so paste your Webhook URL into Landing Page Cat and then click “Save and Preview”.

6. Fill out your optin form on the landing page, and provide an email for Zapier to use when testing. Then go back to Zapier and select ‘Continue’. Now you need to “Test your trigger” by clicking the “Test Trigger” button. Zapier will find that info and use it to help you set up your action. If it worked, click “Continue”

7. Then choose your Action. This is where Zapier will send and compile the information. Zapier will help you set up how the information is handled, using your test as an example.

One of the easiest ways to view this information is by having Zapier output to a Google Docs spreadsheet. You can also send it to different email marketing providers.

8. Once your Zap is completed, just be sure to activate it. You are now ready to go as your quiz already has the appropriate information.

And that’s all there is to integrating ‘Landing Page Cat‘ with your email marketing provider.

How to Track My Landing Pages with Google Analytics

‘Landing Page Cat‘ comes with built-in integrations to enable easy tracking of your landing pages.

Before you begin:
The Google Analytics integration is only available with Landing Page Cat Premium. If you are interested in purchasing head Here.

Enabling Tracking

We’ve integrated with both ‘Analytics Cat‘ and ‘Google Analytics by MonsterInsights‘ for your tracking needs. Make sure you already have one of these plugins installed and setup. Analytics Cat is our own super sleek free plugin, available for download here, and learn how to set up ‘Analytics Cat‘ here.

Once either plugin is set up, all you have to do to enable tracking is head to the ‘Configuration‘ tab for your page, and turn it on.

Technical Details

How the tracking works, and what events we send.

When tracking is enabled, our plugin adds the following on click events to your pages buttons, based on the ‘Call to Action‘ you are using.

Email Optin:

ga('send', 'event', 'Landing Page', 'Email Optin', landingPageCatData.page_title)

Button:

ga('send', 'event', 'Landing Page', 'Button Click', landingPageCatData.page_title)

And that’s all there is to our Google Analytics integration.

How To Use the ‘Welcome Gate’

The ‘Welcome Gate‘ is one of ‘Landing Page Cat’s‘ behavior settings. It makes your landing page appear on all pages, before proceeding. It enables various options in a few places, you’ll need to know how to setup.

Before you begin:
The welcome gate feature is only available with Landing Page Cat Premium. If you are interested in purchasing head Here.

Only Show First-Time Visitors

This adds a cookie to the user’s browser, as soon as they see your landing page. The cookie tells your site not to display this landing page again. The cookie lasts for a year and is a first-party cookie, so it will not be blocked by most cookie blockers.

You’ll want to leave it on for most uses, but there are reasons to disable it. For instance, if you are building a landing page to place your site under construction. Or disable it if you want to make signup mandatory, as successful optins will also add this cookie for your viewers.

Traffic Source

You can target all incoming traffic regardless of the source with the “All Traffic Sources” option. Or you can target incoming traffic from specific sources, which is a great way to create a customized welcome page for visitors from specific places, like social media sites, or your affiliates websites.

Excluding Search Engines

We recommend leaving this on for almost everyone using a ‘Welcome Gate‘.

Why?

To preserve your SEO it is good practice to make sure the page people are searching for, is where they are delivered. Again there are reasons to disable this feature, like when putting your site under construction.

Show Skip Link

Found in the ‘Layout and Content’ tab only when the ‘Welcome gate is enabled. This feature lets you add a skip link to your ‘Welcome Gate’. Useful for when you want to use a landing page to collect optins from viewers, but don’t want to make it mandatory to signup.

You may customize the color and text of the skip link here, when enabled.

Redirect to: Original URL

Both the ‘Button’ CTA and the ‘Email Optin’ CTA will let you redirect to a specific page or post within WordPress. When using a ‘Welcome Gate’ the ‘Original URL’ option will appear here. This will let your viewers continue to their original destination after using your CTA, or skip the link.

And those are all the options and features you need to set up your ‘Welcome Gate’.

Integrating Pixel Cat with my other Fatcat Apps Plugins

Pixel Cat now integrates with all our other amazing Fatcat Apps products.

Before you begin:
Both free and premium versions of Pixel Cat support these integrations, for all levels of all our other plugins. To use these integrations you will need any level of Pixel Cat, and any of our other products, installed and activated.

Once you have any of the above plugins installed alongside Pixel Cat, head to Pixel Cat’s settings, and then to the Settings area.

Then scroll down and turn the toggle on for your desired plugin –

Here is where you can activate our integrations. If the corresponding plugins are not installed you will be unable to activate these. Once activated, the integrations will automatically send appropriate events for actions taken within each plugin.

Lead (Standard Event) – When your visitor submits his email address using any Optin Cat Form.

Easy Pricing Tables

For Easy Pricing Tables, we send an automatic “InitiateCheckout” for all EPT’s call to action buttons.

InitiateCheckout (Standard Event) – When your visitor clicks your CTA within your pricing table.
- price (Custom Parameter) – The price pulled from the corresponding table column.
- content_name (Custom Parameter) – The Title of the page or post where the optin occurred.
- plan-name (Custom Parameter) – The name of the pricing column of the corresponding CTA button.
- pricing_table_id (Custom Parameter) – The ID of the pricing table used.

Quiz Cat

Quiz Cat Events

We send various events about your viewers’ behavior within your quizzes.

- Lead (Standard Event) – When your visitor submits his email address using Quiz Cat’s lead capture feature.
- QuizStart (Custom Event) – When your visitor starts a quiz.
- QuizCompletion (Custom Event) – When your visitor completes a quiz.
- QuizShare (Custom Event) – When your visitor shares his results on Social media.
  - quiz_name (Custom Parameter) – The Title of the quiz taken.
  - quiz reuslt (Custom Parameter) – The name of the final result or personality result given (only upon QuizCompletion.
  - quiz_id (Custom Parameter) – The ID of the quiz taken.

For LandingPage Cat we send “Lead” events for any email optins that take place on your landing pages.

- - Lead (Standard Event) – When your visitor submits his email address using any landing page with optin enabled.

You can use any of these events as a conversion goal for your Facebook ads. Or, you can build custom audiences for your ads based on how people interact with your Fatcat Apps products.
